Viewed: 1,000 views

Description: The object is to fill all empty squares so that the numbers 1 to N (where N is the number of rows or columns in the grid) appear exactly once in each row and column. In addition, the numbers in each block should produce the result shown in the top-left corner of the block according to the math operation appearing on the top of the grid. In CalcuDoku a number may be used more than once in the same block. There is only one unique solution for each puzzle.

Instructions: Click mouse on the desired square to open dial pad and then click on the desired number. To remove a number, repeat the above using X at the bottom of the dial pad. Numbers can also be placed by pointing mouse on the desired square and then typing with the keyboard.

Controls: movement = mouse;

Game Categories: Attention and focusing, Board Game, Executive Functioning, Grade 3-5, Grade 6-8, Problem Solving, Puzzles

Specific Skills Addressed: Cognitive Flexibility, Goal-directed Persistence, Metacognition, Prioritizing

Educator's Review: This version of sudoku is a logic puzzle where players have to place numbers around a grid so that they make sense according to the mathematical operations in the grid. Numbers have to show up once in each column and row, while still making sure the numbers add up correctly, so a placement that seems correct at first may turn out to be wrong. Players have to keep an open mind throughout the game and be flexible with their answers.

Please Note: Although this is a numbers-based game and does involve math, it is primarily a logic game that students who are normally good at math might have a hard time with.
